One-Time vs Monthly Donations: Which One Actually Helps More

Every nonprofit pushes monthly giving and rarely explains why beyond it being convenient. The real reason is worth knowing, because it might change what you choose.
A one-time donation of three hundred dollars and twelve monthly donations of twenty-five come to roughly the same amount. From the receiving end they are not the same thing at all.
A one-time gift is spent against whatever is short when it arrives. That is genuinely useful and there is no catch. If a student needs exam fees in October and your donation lands in October, it does exactly the job.
A recurring gift does something a lump sum cannot: it lets a small organization make a promise. Telling a student their fees are covered for the year means knowing money will be there in March. Without predictable income you can only ever help retrospectively, after a family has already had the bad month.
There is a second effect, less obvious. Predictable income is what allows commitments to people. A mentoring coordinator, a regular programme, someone who is reliably there. Those are the things that require knowing what next quarter looks like, and they are the things that do the most good.
Which to choose honestly depends on you. If a monthly amount you would not notice is available, that is the more useful form. If your giving is lumpy because your income is lumpy, give when you can and do not feel worse about it.
Both are set up on the donation page, one-time, monthly or yearly. For anything tied to an event or a specific campaign, call (240) 330-5127.
